Startup Weekend Education – Free Tickets

Most of how we learn hasn’t changed in over 200 years – you’re grandparents likely sat in desks, aligned in rows and did homework out of a textbook just like you. As students, we’re counting on you to reimagine what school might look like.

Join us (for FREE) at Startup Weekend Education (May 13th-15th). SWEdu brings together a wide-range of people committed to making a positive impact on education. In 54 hours, participants share ideas, form teams, and build sustainable solutions with the help of experienced coaches and mentors.

Think Shark Tank but it one weekend – at an awesome venue (the 1871 building – the hub of Chicago innovation) and with an amazing network of people (folks who have successfully launched their own education startups in Chicago). Prizes include a trip to the ASU/GSV conference and work space at 1871. To register for free, go to, select student ticket, and enter the discount code "CPS_STUDENT".

Service hours to work Dyson Foundation table at Northside Mini Maker Faire

Volunteers needed. Service hours available.

Students will be helping participants of the Northside Mini Maker Faire (click link for date / time) construct a marble run out of cardboard boxes and struts. Participants will be challenged to create a marble track that allows the marble to run continuously for 60 seconds. Lane Tech students will be assisting participants with their marble runs, deconstructing completed runs, and helping draw people to the JDF table. A more detailed description of the activity is attached.
