Hi there,

I’m Victor Scotti, an HBCU Strategist at Google, and copied is my colleague Melissa Arguinzoni, a Pre-College Specialist at Google. You and your organization’s network were recommended organizations to help find the best applicants for the Computer Science Summer Institute program (CSSI). We’re excited to announce that the application is currently open at g.co/CSSI. You are welcome to promote this opportunity broadly across multiple channels and the marketing materials attached to this note. The application closes on Monday, March 25th at 11:59 pm Pacific Standard Time.

Summary

CSSI is a 3-week Google program that introduces rising college freshmen to computer science. We offer two programs to help prepare, empower, and support students from all backgrounds to pursue computer science at a four-year college or university starting in the Fall of 2019.

  • CSSI HBCU: This year, the program will be held at Alabama A&M University (Huntsville, AL) from June 16th, 2019-July 5th, 2019 and North Carolina Central University (Durham, NC) from July 14th, 2019 – August 3rd, 2019. Through this program, students will cultivate an unparalleled community to support them in their journey to and through university

  • CSSI at Google: This year, the program will be held at 10 different Google offices across the United States. Students attend the program at one of our Google offices and experience firsthand Google’s unique and innovative office culture.

For both programs, accepted students will be assigned a program site/date and will not be able to choose. Through this program, students will develop their technical skills, build confidence in their abilities and learn about Google’s internships and full-time opportunities.

Program features

  • A project-based curriculum

  • Daily developmental sessions to help prepare students for CS studies and future job opportunities

  • Robust opportunities to learn and interact with Google engineers

  • 10:1 student-to-teach ratio to provide a personal learning experience

  • Exposure and insight into Google’s internship programs and technical career opportunities

Eligible students must:

  • Be a current high school senior

  • Be available between June 2019 to August 2019

  • CSSI HBCU: Must be considering an HBCU as one of their top three college or university choices

  • Intend to be enrolled as a full-time student in a 4-year BA/BS program in the US or Canada in Fall 2019

  • Intend to pursue a computer science major for the 2019-2020 academic year

  • Be able to demonstrate an interest in studying computer science

  • Be able to attend every day of CSSI

Why is Google investing in historically underrepresented students at the pre-college level?
Simply put, to diversify our undergraduate hiring pipeline. CSSI’s long term mission is to promote equitable representation in tech by connecting incoming students with peers, Google engineers, CS professors, CS alum, and technologists in their local tech ecosystem.

If you have any questions, please reach out to cssi-hbcu (CSSI-HBCU) or cssi (CSSI).

Thank you!

Victor and Melissa, on behalf of the CSSI team
