DePaul University’s DeSports High School Program

DePaul University is proud to announce the DeSports High School Program, located on the DePaul Loop campus. This program is for all of your Chicago area high school students interested in developing valuable skills needed in gaming. Those skills also happen to be aligned with academic studies and impart the development of life skills. The curriculum will also include computer science content, and addresses how CS links to post-secondary opportunities.

The program will be led by two coaches experienced in computer science instruction and gaming. The instruction will be delivered while playing Valorant, a first-person shooter PC game, but can be applied to any game.

Digital Scholars Program (Application still open!)

The Digital Scholars Program is a Free Summer Program that runs M-F. The program starts Tuesday, June 21 – July 22.

Digital Scholars offers Full Day Programming that runs from 9am-4pm, takes place at the UIC Campus and includes a 1 Week, Dorm Stay:

  • CS100 – Intro to CS – Rising Juniors
  • CS111 – INCOMING UIC Freshman ONLY (Class 2022)

They also offer 3 half day programs for rising Juniors that occurs M-F – 9am -1pm at the DPI office downtown at 200 S. Wacker.

GirlCon Registration Open!

We are thrilled to announce that registration for GirlCon 2022 is now OPEN! The conference will be HYBRID, taking place daily from June 15th-June 18th. It is completely free and is aimed at all high school students! REGISTER NOW for an action-packed week of learning, networking, and fun!

A little bit about the 2022 conference:

What does HYBRID mean? This year, GirlCon will have a virtual conference from June 15-17 and an in-person conference day on June 18th at Expedia Chicago! They will be functioning independently of each other and you are welcome to register for both or just one! The virtual and in-person conferences will each require separate sign-up forms! 

GirlCon Digital: June 15-17th, GirlCon will run completely free and virtually over zoom, filled with breakouts, keynote speakers, professional development sessions, networking opportunities, and a chance to win lots of SWAG! Click here to sign up for GirlCon Digital. 

GirlCon X Expedia Chicago (in-person): The in-person conference this year will be held at Expedia’s Chicago office on Saturday, June 18th! This is a completely free single-day event.   • Tech + ‘Passion’ Breakout Sessions:
    • Hear from industry professionals from a wide array of career paths, and discuss how technology plays a role in each field

    • We have an AMAZING lineup of keynote speakers this year: Joy Ofodu, Katie Cook, Gayatri Datar, and more!

    • Meet 1- on-1 with an industry professional to get personalized feedback on your resume and/or refine your interviewing skills.

  • Hobart and William Smith Colleges – Geneva, NY
  • Middlebury College – Middlebury, Vermont
  • Oberlin College – Oberlin, Ohio
  • Pomona College – Claremont, California
  • Trinity College – Hartford, Connecticut
  • University of Michigan (STEM only) – Ann Arbor, Michigan
  • University of Wisconsin-Madison – Madison, Wisconsin

Are you POSSE? – Posse is looking for individuals who have demonstrated leadership ability, communication and team building skills…plus have strong academics.

Nomination Application Process – Lane can nominate 25 POSSE candidates each year. In order to be considered as a POSSE Scholar Nominee, Juniors must submit an Online Nomination Application.

No matter how you plan to be nominated (Posse alum, community based organization, or by Lane Tech – Ms. Saylor), I highly encourage ALL students to complete the online POSSE NOMINATION APPLICATION. This will definitely prepare you for the interviews with Posse in the Fall! It’s due May 7th…but, if you need an extension, just let Ms. Saylor know!
